Again, Nigeria’s Super Eagle play 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe
The dream of Super Eagles of Nigeria playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast fading away as they settled for another uninspiring 1-1 draw with less fancy Zimbabwe on Sunday.
This is the second consecutive draw of the Nigerian team in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Eagles earlier encounter with Lesotho football team in Nigeria (Uyo stadium) also ended in a 1-1 draw.
Like the Uyo game, the Super Eagles came from behind to level up with the Zimbabweans.
Coach Peseiro made five changes in the starting lineup with Bruno Onyemeachi, Ola Aina, Nathan Tella, Terrim Moffi and Moses Simon introduced.
The Eagles went behind in the first half after a free-kick from Walter Musona in the 26th minutes that beat Francis Uzoho in goal for Nigeria.
After an unimpressive first half, the Eagles upped their game in the second half.
Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho found the back of the net in the 67th minute.
The Super Eagles are currently 2nd on the group with their chances of topping the group led by South Africa.
Only the leader of each of the five groups will qualify as one of the Africa’s representatives at the World Cup.
