Agbede-led NURTW gets support of more states, plans delegate conferences
The newly inaugurated leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaj Tajudeen Agbede, has received more support and endorsement of members of the union across the states.
This is coming as the union has announced plans to hold zonal and national delegate conferences next month (October).
Agbede expressed satisfaction with the level of progress made so far and called on other states councils yet to join the main stream to come on board for the sake of the union.
He spoke on Wednesday after the union’s Board of Trustees meeting headed by the former President of the union, Alhaji Najeem Yasin, and attended by 28 state councils chairmen.
A statement on Thursday quoted Agbede as saying ex-President of the union Tajudeen Baruwa and his group are yet to face the reality about the fact that members in Lagos who were hitherto operating under the Lagos State Parks and Garages have since returned to the NURTW.
“Our people in Lagos are now fully back into the union. I am very sure Baruwa and his people were surprised at the rate things are moving within our union.
“They are yet to face the reality; hence, they still refer to our members in Lagos as members of Parks and Garages.”
Agbede appealed to members of the union to embrace the transition programme of the union as stated by Yasin which would see members across the six zones conduct zonal delegate conferences on October 5, 2023 and the national delegate conference on October 25, 2023.
He commended the all the former leaders of the union, especially Alhaji Yasin, for their love and support for the growth of the union.
