John Okufo (not real name), an Igbo tricycle operator in the Oworoshonki area of Lagos, has been physically assaulted by a group of agbero boys over his refusal to show them his ticket.
On Friday, Okufo embarked on a trip at around 7:30 am, promising to tender his pass ticket on his return, but the agbero boys firmly held on to his clothes, pressing them against his neck.

Okufo angrily stormed out of the tricycle and “almost strangled the agbero to death”.
Other standing-by agbero boys intervened, only for one of them, who is muscular, to punch Okufo in the face several times.“You wanted to take advantage of Taju because he’s a thin person,” he told him. “If we had not intervened, you would have killed him.”
“He could never have tried that in Bariga. Won bi da. They would have beaten him to death right away. It’s only here in Oworo they try that nonsense.”
Okufo’s complaint that he had been blinded and that he wanted to go to the hospital was taken as a threat by the agbero boys, who said they were going “to plug out his eyes with a bunch of keys” if he said one more thing.
