Air Force destroys terrorists’ bomb factory in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed a terrorist Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) factory located in Grazah, deep within the Mandara Hills of Borno State.

This operation was part of the ongoing efforts under Operation Hadin Kai, aimed at eradicating terrorist activities in the region.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the airstrike was conducted on August 2, following credible intelligence reports. The reports indicated the presence of an IED factory and a storage facility for other terrorist logistics at the Grazah location.

The air interdiction came in response to a recent surge in attacks on innocent civilians in Borno, which involved the use of IEDs and suicide bombers. Intelligence had revealed that the IED factory had been relocated multiple times—first from Gwoza, then to the Timbuktu Triangle in Sambisa Forest, and finally to Grazah in the Mandara Hills.

“The frequent relocation of IED factories by terrorists is due to the significant firepower exerted on their enclaves by the combined efforts of the entire security apparatus operating in the theatre,” AVM Gabkwet noted.

The IED factory at Grazah had been under surveillance for several weeks, with observations confirming various installations and activities typical of a strategic terrorist stronghold. Additionally, two gun trucks were spotted concealed under a large tree near the suspected IED factory.

Given these findings, an airstrike was deemed necessary to neutralize the threat. The air component of Operation Hadin Kai effectively destroyed the targets, with a thick cloud of smoke observed post-strike, confirming the successful demolition of the IED factory and the gun trucks.

This operation marks a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the terrorists in the region and underscores the ongoing commitment of the Nigerian military to ensuring the safety and security of civilians in Borno and beyond.
