Ajaero: Good job DSS, he was fleeing to UK, Onochie alleges

Ajaero: Good job DSS, he was fleeing to UK, Onochie alleges

A prominent leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Lauretta Onochie, has justified the arrest of President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ajaero was taken into custody at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday morning while attempting to depart for the United Kingdom.

He was however released after public outcry that greeted his arrest and subsequent detention.

Onochie commended the DSS for their swift action, saying, “Good job DSS. He was fleeing to a nation where laws are respected and DSS grabbed him.”

She described Ajaero as a fugitive trying to escape to a country known for upholding the rule of law, but was apprehended by the DSS, according to a report by Vanguard.

Onochie’s comments come after Ajaero’s detention caused public uproar, with some criticizing the government’s actions as an attempt to silence opposition voices.

However, Onochie’s statement indicates that the DSS’s decision was justified, and that Ajaero’s action to depart the country was an attempt to flee from the law.

The NLC has clarified that the union leader was heading for the UK to attend an annual global labour event.
