Ajayi Crowther University celebrates media expert, Sunday Saanu
The management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has honoured the University of Ibadan (UI) Chief Information Officer, and media professional, Mr. Sunday Saanu, for his contributions to the image making of the institution during his one-year sabbatical with the faith-based university.
Saanu whose sabbatical ended on August 31, 2024 was showered with encomiums at a colourful farewell ceremony held in his honour.
“Saanu has added values to the university with his professional competence, dedication, discipline and passion, Vice Chancellor of the ACU, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo, said as he led other management team members in paying tribute to the media expert.
The VC recalled how he made spirited efforts to bring Saanu to ACU on account of his impressive performance at the UI as Media Assistant to the VC.
He said after reading Saanu’s works in various media, he was convinced that the media expert would be an asset to the ACU.
The VC said, “Saanu has not disappointed me, rather, he has exceeded our expectations and contributed immensely to the development of this university.”
“His writings are a testament to his mastery of the English language, and his impact here has been felt by everyone.”
Adebayo also spoke on the media expert’s pivotal role during a crisis at the university, crediting him with suggesting key strategies that helped restore normalcy.
“His advice was invaluable, and his discreet yet effective approach to his work has been nothing short of remarkable,” the VC stated.
The university’s Librarian, Dr. Bosede Ajiboye, also said Saanu’s “articles are always a must-read, and his dedication is inspiring”.
Other members of the university, including Deputy Registrar Mr Olusegun Ojo and Public Relations Officer Mr Olufemi Atoyebi, also paid glowing tributes to Saanu, highlighting the invaluable lessons they had learnt from him during his time at ACU.
In his response, an emotional Saanu expressed his gratitude for the unexpected honour.
“I never imagined such a lavish farewell. I am humbled and deeply moved by all these tributes,” he said, promising to continue supporting ACU in any way he could.
Saanu was later given an award in recognition of his contributions to the university.
