Anambra creates electricity regulatory commission for regular power supply

The Anambra State Government has officially inaugurated the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) as part of a comprehensive strategy to improve electricity supply across the state.

This development was announced following the 10th meeting of the State Executive Council, according to a statement released on Saturday by the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Sir Julius Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka explained that ASERC would play a pivotal role in implementing the state’s electricity policies. Its establishment is intended to drive investments in the power sector and encourage private sector involvement.

He described the initiative as a step in the right direction, noting that it would enable the state government’s deeper involvement in power generation projects.

“The state electricity regulatory commission would be charged with the responsibility of generating electricity aimed at providing a steady power supply in the state,” the Commissioner stated.

He further emphasized the vision behind the new regulatory body, “The creation of ASERC is a confirmation of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment towards economic development for power availability, which would aid his industrial revolution in Anambra State.”

“The ASERC would oversee the implementation of electricity policies of the Solution government to facilitate investments in the power sector, attract private sector participation, which will give birth to more infrastructural developments in the state.”

The Commissioner also referenced a significant partnership between the state government and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), which has led to the production of electricity prepaid meters in Ozubulu. This effort aims to reduce the state’s metering deficit.

Other ongoing power-related initiatives under Governor Soludo’s administration include the distribution of transformers to underserved communities, plans for Nigeria’s first electricity market, and the construction of a substation at the Igbariam campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

Chukwuemeka also highlighted the deployment of solar installations in government buildings and new water facilities, aligning with the governor’s clean and green policy agenda.
