Two people have been confirmed dead, and 23 others rescued so far been at the site of a three-storey building that collapsed at 24, Ibadan Street (East), off Muritala Mohammed Way, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, on Sunday.
Those rescued include 22 males and one female, while a male and a female were reported dead.
Rescue teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) drafted to the scene of the accident worked throughout the night.
The incident is the second to occur in the Yaba-Ebuta Meta axis of Lagos in the last two months.
On February 13, a three-storey building collapsed in the Onike area of Yaba, leading to the death of many people.
The developer of the project was said to have returned to the site despite a stop-work order on the structure.
The Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the latest incident in a statement on Sunday.
She said some people residing in the building had been trapped, adding that a search and rescue operation was ongoing to rescue the trapped victims.
Adeseye said, “An alert of a collapsed three-storey building on 32 Ibadan Street, Ebute Meta, was received around 9.48pm on Sunday, with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service already at the scene.
“A search and rescue operation is ongoing to rescue some of the trapped victims.”
