APC Chairmanship Race: Tinubu Visits Contestant From Niger

Three days after Governor Sani Bello endorsed his presidential bid, National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has visited the Chairman, Senate Services Committee, Senator Sani Musa (APC Niger).

The lawmaker is one of the top contenders of the APC national chairmanship.

The former Lagos State governor who visited Senator Musa at his Maitama residence in Abuja, assured him that the contribution he has made to the party would not be in vain.

Tinubu said Senator Musa would be rewarded by the party following his contributions to the success of the party in 2014 and 2015.

He said, “The sacrifices of distinguished Senator Mohammed Sani Musa in 2014/2015 will not go in vain, The leadership of the ruling party is fully aware. Insha Allah, he will be rewarded.”

When Tinubu visited Niger governor on Thursday, Bello had said if the APC Tinubu could transform Lagos, he could do the same in Nigeria.

The governor said, “We saw the foundation you laid in Lagos and we look forward to seeing you replicate it for Nigeria.”

During his visit, Tinubu donated N50m to the victims of bandit attacks in the State.

He further stated that he believed the current security challenges facing the country would be addressed if efforts were intensified.

Breaking: Ekweremadu withdraws from Enugu governorship race

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has withdrawn from the Enugu State governorship race.

Ekweremadu said he would not participate in today’s governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State.

This was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday morning by his campaign organisation.

Ekweremadu, who is currently representing Enugu West Senatorial District at the Senate, was a foremost governorship aspirant in the state before announcing his withdrawal.

On Tuesday, the former governor of old Anambra State Senator Jim Nwobodo had announced that Enugu East Senatorial zone had adopted Dr Peter Mbah as the next governor of Enugu State.

He also said that Senator Ekweremadu had given his support for Peter Mbah to succeed Ugwuanyi, although the governor had yet openly endorsed anybody as his successor.

However, in a swift reaction, Ekweremadu campaign organisation said it was false.

But on Wednesday morning, in what appeared a new twist, the campaign organisation issued a statement titled “Senator Ekweremadu won’t participate in PDP primary election”.

The statement signed by Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, Hon Charles Asogwa, read “I wish to inform our supporters and Nigerians that the former Deputy President of the Senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

“Meanwhile, we continue to trust God as we appreciate our teeming supporters and the good people of Enugu State for the enormous goodwill they have ceaselessly invested in the actualisation of the “Pathway to a New Enugu State”.

“We urge them to remain peaceful and be assured that we will keep them abreast of our decision on the way forward.”

2023: Massive deployment of security agents as Lagos PDP holds gov’ship primary + photo

Armed security personnel, mainly Department of State Service, police and Civil Defense as Lagos Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, holds it’s primary to elect Gubernatorial flagbearer for the 2023 poll in the state.

In a statement by National Chairman of the PDP, Senator, Iyorchia Ayu, on Tuesday, the event will take place at Haven event centre, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Ayu advised Non-Delegate to stay away or face the wrath of the law as security has been madated to ensure maximum hitch-free exercise.

The aspirants are: Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor, Ade Dosumu and Deji Doherty.

Why I lost PDP primary in Kogi -Dino Melaye

Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has blamed gang-up for his loss at the primary to elect the senatorial candidate for Kogi West on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The PUNCH had reported that the lawmaker representing Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal constituency, Tajudeen Yusuf, defeated Senator Dino Melaye to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party senatorial ticket in Kogi State.

Yusuf defeated Melaye, who represented Kogi West in the eighth Assembly with 163 votes as against 99 votes polled by Melaye.

In a rerun election held Tuesday in Kaba, following a tied result of 88 votes apiece for the duo of TJ Yusuf and Dino Melaye after Monday’s delegates election.

Congratulating Yusuf, Melaye tweeted, “The primary has been fought and won. I congratulate Hon. T.J YUSUF and thank all those who voted in the first and second ballot for me.

“The gang-up is unimaginable but l give God praise. God bless you all. SDM.”

In Kogi East, former banker, Dr Victor Adoji clinched the ticket to fly the flag of PDP at next February’s general election.
