APC dares Mutfwang to name defection lobbyists

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to disclose the identities of those allegedly urging him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Governor Mutfwang, while speaking at a banquet held at the Government House in Jos over the weekend, claimed that some APC members had approached him with overtures to join their party. He, however, maintained that only divine guidance and the will of the people who elected him could influence such a decision.

“It is not a lie that they are putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people would authorize me to change my party. One is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people,” Mutfwang said.

He further alleged that a majority of APC members in the state would welcome his defection, saying, “The truth is that 60 to 70 percent of APC members in the state would be glad to have us in their party. They are just biting their fingers because they know I won’t join them.”

Reacting to the governor’s comments, the APC’s acting press secretary in Jos, Shittu Bamaiyi, dismissed the claims as “self-denial,” accusing Mutfwang of attempting to divert attention from what he described as the administration’s shortcomings.

“If he truly meant well for his supporters and the state, he should have courageously named those pressuring him and explained why,” Bamaiyi said.

He added that the governor’s remarks reflect poorly on his leadership, noting, “It is a big minus for a sitting governor when the opposition openly objects to his joining its ranks, even when that party’s goal is to win future elections.”

The development has stirred political debate in Plateau State, with observers watching closely for any signs of realignment ahead of future polls.
