APC sweeps Lagos LG Poll, PDP clinches one councillorship slot
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 20 local government chairmanship positions in the LGA elections.
The body also declared the ruling party as winner of all 37 local council development area (LCDA) chairmanship seats.
The APC swept 375 councilor positions, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with only a single councilor seat.
The chairperson of LASIEC, Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, announced the results at the commission’s office in Yaba on Sunday.
She congratulated the election winners, urging them not to be carried away by the celebrations, but to view their victory as a call to serve.
“My words to the winners in the election is that this is not only a call for celebration but for service to the people who voted for them,” she said.
Daily Trust reports that the council poll held on Saturday was marred by low turnout of voters, delayed electoral materials and discrepancies.
