APC sweeps Sokoto LG polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of all 23 chairmanship and councillorship positions in Sokoto State following the local government elections held last Saturday.

The announcement was made by the chairman of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman, on Monday.

Suleiman noted that 15 political parties participated in the election, but the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not take part in the poll.

Following the announcement, the commission immediately issued certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen. Governor Ahmed Aliyu is set to swear in the new chairmen later today at 4 p.m.

This victory solidifies APC’s political presence in Sokoto State, further bolstering its control over local government administration.
