Over 500 NNPP members dump party for APC in Kano
APC woman leader, 100 supporters abandon party for NNPP
In a significant political shift in Kano State, more than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Tarai ward in Kibiya Local Government Area have defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing the developmental strides of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
The defection was formally acknowledged by the Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu A. Kibiya, who welcomed the new members into the NNPP fold during a ceremony held in Kibiya.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Balarabe Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
Leading the defectors was Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, a prominent APC woman leader in the area. She praised the NNPP-led government for its visible impact on grassroots development.

“We are impressed by the numerous projects executed by Governor Yusuf at both the local government and state levels,” she stated.
Commissioner Kibiya assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party and encouraged them to contribute actively to the NNPP’s growth and success in the region.
“You are now part of a progressive movement. We welcome you wholeheartedly and urge you to work together with existing members to strengthen our party,” he said.
The defection is seen as a boost for the NNPP in Kano State, where Governor Yusuf’s administration has prioritized infrastructure, education, and social welfare initiatives since assuming office. Political observers note that the move could further consolidate the party’s influence in the southern part of the state ahead of future elections.
