Arewa youths oppose planned protests against INEC chairman
The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has condemned the planned nationwide protests titled “Reform INEC and Sack Yakubu” by a movement set to begin in Abuja.
In a statement released by its President-General, Yerima Shettima, the AYCF described the protests as an attempt by saboteurs and enemies of the state to destabilize the nation and undermine the democratic process.
“It is disheartening to see a segment of the youth population being misled by groups seeking to further their own agendas under the guise of reform,” the statement read.
“The integrity of our electoral system is paramount. Attacking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, without substantive evidence is unwarranted and counterproductive to the democratic values we strive to uphold.”

The group called on Nigerian youth to disregard the protest calls, stating that such actions risk inciting chaos and instability. “Engaging in protests that threaten national stability undermines the progress we have made as a nation. Our focus should remain on constructive dialogue and collaboration to address any legitimate grievances rather than resorting to actions that may lead to discord,” the AYCF emphasized.
The statement also urged the government and relevant authorities to counter misinformation and protect the country from groups exploiting youth for selfish motives. “We must prioritize unity, peace, and progress, fostering an environment conducive to growth and development for all Nigerians,” the AYCF added.
The group called on stakeholders to work collectively to improve electoral processes through meaningful dialogue and engagement, rather than protests driven by discontent. “Together, let us build a stronger, more united Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
