Armed robbers killed one person on Thursday when they attacked two commercial banks in the Iree area of Osun State.
According to reports, the robbers arrived at the banks some minutes to 4pm and operated for about 15 minutes before they fled the area.
A student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, simply identified as Olaide, told Punch that the attackers escaped through Ada/Iree road shooting into the air as they fled the area.
“One person was shot. He is a man and he died instantly,” Olaide said.
The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, was also said to have confirmed the incident.
She revealed that members of the tactical teams had been deployed to the area.
A resident of the area identified as Fisayo also told The Nation that the the robbers during the operation shattered the banks’ doors with bullets and dynamite.
“We heard gunshots around the Poly Junction. Some of my colleagues who ran from the scene informed us that the robbers who came in three vehicles in their numbers attacked the two banks.
“They had already attacked a police station located in-between the two banks and in the process, one police constabulary was killed and others ran away.
“I saw two policemen running away, removing their uniform to prevent being identified.”
