Armed robbers kill woman in Ekiti for failing to surrender bag

In a tragic incident that has sparked fear among residents, a woman was fatally shot by suspected armed robbers in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

The incident occurred on NTA Road around 7 am on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

According to reports, the gunmen, riding on a motorcycle, attempted to rob the woman of her belongings in her handbag as she stood by the roadside.

Refusing to surrender, the woman resisted their demands, prompting the assailants to shoot her before fleeing the scene.

The shocking event led to a swift evacuation of bystanders to safety, with local businesses hastily closing their doors in response to the violence.

Confirming the incident, DSP Sunday Abutu, spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, described the incident as a robbery gone wrong.

He disclosed that the victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, had a sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty naira (N40,280) in her possession, which was discovered in her bag.

The deceased woman’s body has been transported to the morgue, while law enforcement authorities have initiated a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this senseless act of violence.
