Army captures Boko Haram commanders, rescues kidnapped victims
Troops of the Nigerian Army have made significant strides in the fight against Boko Haram, capturing suspected commanders and arresting terrorist logistic suppliers.
The operations also led to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the recovery of looted items.
On August 4, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, troops apprehended two Boko Haram commanders who had infiltrated the Damasak Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mobbar Local Government Area, Borno State. The suspects, Bana Yamode and Babagana Usman, who claimed to be visiting their families, had previously led attacks on troops in the area.
In addition to the commanders, the army also apprehended two suspected logistic suppliers, Mallam Mustapha Ismaila, 49, and Abdulmudalabi Haruna, 30, and rescued two minors during the operations.

Further successes were recorded with the surrender of 50 Boko Haram suspects and their families to troops stationed in Bama, Gwoza, and Dikwa Local Government Areas. Meanwhile, in Yobe State, three Boko Haram collaborators were arrested at Gubio Market. During the preliminary investigation, these suspects admitted to involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery. Recovered items included two motorcycles and several mobile phones.
In Kogi State, troops arrested a notorious kidnapping kingpin, Mohammed Bello, in Egbe community of Yagba Local Government Area. Bello, part of a seven-man syndicate, had been on security agencies’ watchlists. Troops also responded to a distress call involving the kidnapping of the former Chairman of Kabba Local Government Area. They engaged the terrorists in Egbe Forest, capturing one suspect and rescuing the victim, who has since been reunited with his family.
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts and successes of the Nigerian Army in combating terrorism and criminal activities across the country.
