Army headquarters reviews troops combat readiness of North-West operations
In a bid to bolster frontline operations against insecurity, a high-powered delegation from Army Headquarters, led by Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Garba and Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Williams, embarked on an operational assessment tour of 1 Division and Sector 1 under Operation Fansan Yamma on Saturday.
The team, comprising senior officers from the Department of Army Operations, visited Forward Operating Base (FOB) Udawa, where they were received by the commander of Sub Sector 3. There, they inspected troops, equipment, and facilities, with a sharp focus on operational preparedness, logistics, and welfare.
Addressing the troops, the generals praised their resilience and professionalism in the face of persistent threats from bandits and terrorists. They urged personnel to remain steadfast in their constitutional duties and uphold the highest standards of discipline.

The delegation later moved to Birnin Gwari, where they received a detailed briefing in the operational room on the current security landscape, recent successes, and ongoing challenges. The visit offered the team firsthand insight into the realities confronting troops in the joint operations area.
Their final stop was Headquarters 3 Brigade in Kano, where Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur welcomed the team. Maj.-Gen. Garba emphasized that the visit reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining combat readiness and operational excellence across formations, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision.
Operation Fansan Yamma continues to be a key effort in the military’s campaign to restore peace and security in troubled regions.
