Army Major feared killed in Anambra

An Army major has been reported killed in Anambra State.

The officer was said to have been shot dead on Sunday in the Azia-Ukpor area of Ihiala council of the state.

He was identified as Churchill Orji.

It was further gathered that he was allegedly killed during an operation in a dreaded area occupied by gunmen.

Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu did not confirm the incident when contacted yesterday.

But he gave the assurance that the command would inquire about it

A senior Army officer declined to speak on the issue, rather referring the reporter to the Army Public Relations Department.

But a senior police source in the state, who asked not to be identified, confirmed the incident, describing it an unfortunate development.

He said those who committed such atrocious act would regret it.

The area where the alleged killing took place was close to Imo State, which had been under siege for a long time in the hands of gunmen

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, with the help of security operatives, has battled the gunmen in the past weeks.

One notorious terror called Double Lion was killed by security operatives, along with four others.
