Arsenal Beat Brighton 2–1 to Stay Top as Premier League
Arsenal strengthened their grip on the Premier League title race with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Brighton on Saturday, maintaining a two-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table.
The Gunners returned to the summit after Manchester City had earlier claimed a 2–1 win against Nottingham Forest in the day’s early kickoff, briefly moving above Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard opened the scoring in the 14th minute, netting his first goal of the season after a well-weighted assist from Bukayo Saka. The North London side dominated proceedings and doubled their advantage seven minutes into the second half when Brighton’s Georginio Rutter inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Brighton mounted a late response and pulled one back in the 64th minute through Diego Gomez, who scored with their first effort on target, beating goalkeeper David Raya to set up a tense finale.
Despite sustained pressure from the visitors, Arteta’s men showed resilience to hold on for a crucial win that keeps them two points clear of Man City in the race for the league title.
Reacting after the match, Ødegaard praised his teammates’ performance while admitting the contest was demanding.
“It was a tough one in the end, but I think we played a good game,” the Arsenal skipper said. “We were dominant from the start. They got momentum after the goal, but we defended well and got an important three points.”
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Liverpool edged Wolves 2–1 to climb to fourth place, with Florian Wirtz scoring his first league goal for the Reds and Ryan Gravenberch also on target.
Brentford thrashed Bournemouth 4–1, Fulham secured a 1–0 win over West Ham, while Everton and Burnley shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
