Assault Video: FCT police commissioner redeploys DPO over misconduct
ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, has wielded the big stick, ordering the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa following a viral video that captured the officer slapping a young man.
The disturbing footage, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, sparked outrage among Nigerians and prompted swift disciplinary action from the police hierarchy.
Confirming the development, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the CP was “deeply appalled” by the officer’s conduct, describing it as a gross violation of the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The actions fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” CP Dantawaye said in a statement on Thursday.
He stressed that such behaviour would not be tolerated under his watch, adding that the erring officer had been recalled to the command headquarters while investigations into the incident commence.
