The Federal Government says it has met 80 per cent of the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities that led to the current prolonged strike.
Government therefore contended that the decision of ASUU to extend indefinitely the over six-month-old strike as unreasonable.
The FG’s position came through the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Bem Goong, who said the government had deployed all measures to end the strike.
He said, “If you bring some demands and almost 80 per cent have been attended to, there is no need to drag the strike anymore.
“It is unreasonable for the strike to be lingering since the government has worked towards fulfilling most of the demands.
“As regards the next steps, the government has already inaugurated a committee to harmonize the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS, University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS and the University Peculiar Personnel and Payroll System.”
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 2022 over the government’s inability to meet a 2009 agreement bordering on improved welfare package, payment platform and adequate funding of university.
