Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will Tuesday (tomorrow) boycott lectures and hold rallies across the country in protest against the half salary paid to them by the Federal Government for the month of October.
The union recently suspended an industrial action that last eight months and had demanded payment in full their outstanding salaries including the strike period but the government insisted on enforcing its no-work no-pay policy.
But ASUU rejected the policy and the half salary for October.
The union said protest would be organised at the branch levels of the union across public university campuses nationwide.
A report by The Punch quoted a member of the National Executive Council of the union as confirming this in an interview on Sunday.
He said, “We are protesting. Branches will choose their own dates, the government needs to understand that we are not casual workers.”
A letter signed by the Chairman of ASUU, University of Lagos branch, Dr Dele Ashir, said the branch would protest on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
The letter which was addressed to “all stakeholders” stated that the special congress/ protest rally against the casualization of intellectualism in Nigeria will hold on “Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Julius Berger auditorium.”
Other branches, it was learnt, were free to choose time and venue found suitable for their protest.
