Thugs attack Atiku convoy in Borno, 70 hospitalised

The convoy of former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, was attacked in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday, leaving at least 70 injured people hospitalised.

In a video circulated on social media, a group of people were seen running in different directions as gunshots rented the air.

Borno is an All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled state.

A report by Daily Trust stated that vandalised vehicles were seen in the convoy of Atiku at Ramat Square in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Spokesman for the Atiku Campaign, Senator Dino Malaye, accused the ruling party in Borno as being behind the attack.

Melaye said that more than 70 people were hospitalised.

He was quoted as saying, “They wanted to prevent us from holding the campaign. As we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalised.

“Several vehicles were vandalised by the APC thugs.”

The APC is yet to react to Melaye’s allegation as of the time of filing this report.
