Ban Libya from international football, Victor Ikpeba tells CAF

Former Super Eagles star, Victor Ikpeba has called for Libya to be banned from international football after the inhumane treatment meted out to the Nigerian men’s senior national team and officials.

The Super Eagles were stranded at the Al Abaq Airport following their arrival in the North African country on Sunday for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday for an encounter against the Mediterranean Knights.

The players – through the captain, William Troost-Ekong – have already indicated they will boycott the game.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has already sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ikpeba asserted that the Mediterranean Knights’ barbaric act should result in a ban.

“If CAF know their job, Libya ought to be banned from international football,” Ikpeba, who is part of the Nigerian delegation in Libya for the AFCON qualifier, was quoted by SCORENigeria.

“CAF are not mindful of the safety and wellbeing of players across Africa.

“This is a high-risk country, and one really wonders who approved for Mediterranean Knights to be playing their games at home.

“I played for the Super Eagles for 10 years, and I never experienced what I have in Libya in the last hours.”
