Bandits abduct five nursing mothers, steal 50 cows in Kano community

Armed bandits on Sunday night invaded Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa community, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting five nursing mothers from their homes.

The assailants, who stormed the area on motorcycles, also carted away about 50 cows and an unspecified number of other animals during the attack.

Chairman of the Security Committee of Faruruwa and neighbouring communities, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, confirmed the incident to journalists in Kano on Monday.

Bagobiri expressed concern over the incessant attacks by bandits in the area despite the deployment of heavily armed military personnel and other security operatives.

He disclosed that hundreds of residents had fled the community to seek safety in nearby towns following the renewed onslaught.

“We continue to experience these attacks almost on a daily basis, despite the presence of the military and other security personnel in the area. Even when the bandits came yesterday, we alerted the security personnel, but nothing was done until the terrorists raided our houses and whisked away the nursing mothers,” Bagobiri lamented.

He added that the attackers separated the infants from their mothers before abducting the women.
“One of the nursing mothers was fortunate to escape and return home, but the other four are still being held captive,” he said.

Bagobiri appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other top security officials to urgently intervene and rescue the affected communities from the grip of banditry.

He, however, commended the government for its swift response through the deployment of additional security personnel, but called for more troops and equipment to effectively tackle the menace.
