Bandits attack bus on Ilorin–Egbe highway, driver injured
Panic has gripped commuters along the Ilorin–Egbe highway following a brazen attack by armed bandits on a commercial bus between Eruku and Egbe, a border corridor linking Kwara and Kogi states.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, saw gunmen in large numbers ambush the vehicle and open fire indiscriminately, leaving the driver seriously injured.
Eyewitnesses told Sahara Reporters that the assailants “suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle,” with bullets striking the driver during the assault.

A video obtained by the outlet showed the bus riddled with bullet holes and bloodstains on the driver’s side. The injured driver was identified as a native of Isanlu, while other passengers included a man from Egbe and an unidentified Hausa trader.
The attack has sparked renewed calls from residents for urgent intervention. Locals have appealed to the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government to collaborate with his counterpart in Yagba West to address the escalating banditry crisis along the Kwara–Kogi boundary.
The Ilorin–Egbe highway, a vital route for traders and travellers, has witnessed a surge in violent attacks in recent months, fuelling widespread fear and insecurity among road users.
