Bandits attack Katsina hospital, shoot doctor, kidnap 5

Bandits have attacked the General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and shot a medical doctor and kidnapped five persons. Among those kidnapped were staff of the hospital.

Meanwhile, in Kwara State, no fewer than 10 gunmen have reportedly kidnapped five persons in Odo-Eku community, Isin Local Government Area of the state.

In Katsina, a source in the area revealed that the incident occurred about 7p.m., causing panic among patients and staff as the bandits opened fire.

A medical doctor with the Kankara hospital, Dr. Murtala Dandashire, was reportedly shot while attending to some patients.

“He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving medical attention,” the source said.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed the attack, saying the incident was currently under investigation.

Vanguard gathered that the incident happened in the night of Tuesday, when the people of the community were said to be in a deep sleep.

The bandits were said to have invaded the community, shooting sporadically into the air, a development that awoke the residents, who ran for safety.
