Updated: Bandits attack two Plateau communities, kill 14

Bandits have killed 14 persons in two separate attacks on two communities in Plateau State

The first attack took place at Zogu village in the Bassa Local Council Area at 8pm when some suspected herdsmen stormed the area and started shooting, leading to the death of two persons.

The second attack in which 12 people were killed occurred about two a half hours later at Kuru in the Jos South Local Council Area, Five others were said to be seriously injured during the attack.
Chairman of Jos South Local Government, Hon Gideon Dandereng, confirmed the attacks to journalists in Jos on Monday, describing the incident as callous, adding that the people of the area were peace-loving and hardworking citizens.
He also called for calm and appealed to security operatives to go after the perpetrators.

Secretary of Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Danjuma Auta, who spoke on the second attack on Zogu village, said, “The people were sleeping and the attackers stormed the village and started shooting leaving two killed and two injured.
“One of the women was critically injured and was first taken to Bingham University Teaching Hospital but was later transferred to JUTH.”
Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Gabriel Ubah, said, “We received a report that 10 persons were shot dead in a drinking joint at Sabon Layi, Kuru, in the Jos South LGA by yet to be identified gunmen who drove in with a Hilux, shot sporadically and zoomed off.
“Personnel of the command and the military have been deployed in the affected area.
“The Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and to bring the perpetrators of that dastardly act to book.”
Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, expressed sadness over the killings.
He appealed to citizens to increase surveillance and intelligence gathering as well as collaborate with security agencies to foil attacks carried out in a hit and run fashion.
