Bandits have killed five members of a vigilance group along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway in Kaduna State.
The attack took place around 5:30 pm on Tuesday, according to sources.
Liman Husaini Udawa, a community leader, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the victims were attacked near Unguwar Yako.
He said the vigilantes were released returning from Kaduna when the incident happened.
“They were ambushed and their vehicle was set ablaze near unguwar Yako along the highway by the bandits. As we speak we recovered five bodies of our vigilantes three escaped,” he said.
He said they will be buried at Udawa town in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Jalige Mohammed, neither answered calls nor replied the text messages sent to his phone as at the time of filing this report.
