Bandits kill ex-PDP chieftain, 3 others in Benue fresh attack
James Akase, a former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside three other individuals have been killed in separate attacks carried out by armed bandits in the Gwer West and Guma Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Benue State
Victor Ormin, Chairman of Gwer West LGA, confirmed that the incidents occured on Monday, May 19 due to coordinated attacks by the bandits on rural settlements.
He mentioned that Akase who is originally from Tse-Defam in the Ma’akov Vengav area of Avihijime Council Ward was killed while attempting to return to his deserted home to retrieve food supplies for his displaced family.
Ormin disclosed that another resident was kidnapped by the bandits on the same day but was later freed after a ransom was paid by relatives.

Residents of Guma LGA also revealed that three people were killed in attacks on two different villages.
They noted that one of the victims identified as Bartholomew Ikornya was shot dead in Tse Ikpe Ago along the Yogbo-Gyungu Aze road in Mbayer/Yandev council ward, while two others whose names are Gabriel Korlaga and Kunde were both murdered in Tse Kologa, Mbagune, under Nyiev council ward.
Ormin finally urged the police and governor to come to their aid so as to ensure safety of lives and properties in the communities.
However, the chairman of Guma LGA, Maurice Orwough and the state’s police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Catherine Anene have not yet commented on the issue.
