Bandits shoot three, abduct six in Abuja

On Christmas Eve, in Tokulo village, Kawu ward of Bwari Area Council in the FCT, bandits shot and injured three people while abducting two others. Prior to this, the bandits had attacked Garam village a few kilometers away, where they abducted four villagers.

According to Josiah Daniel, a resident of Tokulo, the incident occurred around 12:13 am when the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded a house in the community and abducted the victims.

Three villagers attempting to escape sustained gunshot wounds and were subsequently taken to a hospital in Bwari town.

The terror didn’t spare Garam village either, as confirmed by Danjuma Lucky, another resident.

Last week, bandits invaded Garam, killing one person and abducting four villagers after shooting sporadically during the attack.

One of the victims, Jonathan, lost his life, and the abductors have yet to contact the families of those taken.

Expressing concern over the escalating insecurity in Bwari communities, an anonymous top civil servant in Garam criticized the council’s leadership, particularly John Gabaya, for not prioritizing the security of lives and property.

He highlighted that the bandits, often originating from Kaduna villages, freely abduct victims and relocate them to a forest hideout in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.

Furthermore, the civil servant noted the absence of the Bwari council chairman, John Gabaya, who has been out of the country with his family for almost two weeks while the community faces the ongoing threat of kidnappings.

“As I speak, the chairman of Bwari has been out of the country for almost two weeks now with his family, while his people are being kidnapped. I beg you to go and make your enquiry, which is quite unfortunate, “ he said.

Despite attempts to seek information from the FCT Police Command through spokesperson SP Adeh Josephine, there was no response at the time of filing this report.

The situation underscores the pressing need for improved security measures and immediate attention to safeguard the lives and property of residents in Bwari communities.
