Bandits Strike Oyo National Park, Kill Four Officers in Late-Night Attack
Fear and tension have gripped communities in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, which reportedly claimed the lives of four personnel.
The attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when heavily armed gunmen stormed the National Park facility under the cover of darkness, catching NPS operatives unawares. Security sources said the attackers infiltrated the area unnoticed before launching a coordinated and violent assault on the officers.
At least four National Park Service officers were killed, while several others sustained injuries during the raid. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as residents of nearby communities fled for safety, amid fears of possible follow-up attacks.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified gunmen targeting NPS personnel.
“Yes, there was an attack by unidentified men on officers of the National Park Service. The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, alongside other security chiefs, is currently on the way to the location,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, had ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police teams, operatives of the Mobile Police Force, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Following the attack, security presence has been significantly reinforced in and around Oloka and adjoining communities, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident has once again raised concerns over growing insecurity and banditry in parts of Oyo State, particularly around forested and remote areas where armed groups have increasingly targeted security formations.
