Banky W, Reekado Banks, other Nigerian artiste decry insecurity

Banky W, Reekado Banks, Samklef, Chioma Ifemeludike have expressed sadness over the current security challenge facing the country.

The entertainers joined other citizens to call on the government to intensify effort in ensuring safety for all.

Reacting to the insecurity surge, record label exec and singer Banky W said it’s draining and depressing.

“So much bad news in Nigeria every day… we’ve become numb to it. If it’s not murder and kidnapping, it’s unrest and people unfit for office calling the shots. It’s like we are in an abusive relationship with the country we love. It’s exhausting. It’s draining. It’s depressing.”

Reekado Banks blamed bad politicians for everything happening.

According to the ‘Katapot’ singer, innocent citizens are the ones to suffer the impending disaster. “Nigeria is on the brink of civil war and the politicians are doing everything to enable it because their schemes thrive in havoc and when there’s a divide. As citizens, who will suffer the most from this impending disaster, we must do everything within our power to champion peace.”

For Samklef, ‘it’s crazy how things are going on in the country and bad governance is responsible for the happenings.

Nollywood actress, Chioma Grace Ifemeludike said Nigeria has deteriorated for a long time.

She said the silence of many Nigerians especially celebrities is what led us to the horrible situation.

“If you are a celebrity, automatically, you have become influential and you must use it to influence ordinary people positively.

“But, it so sad that many of these people lobby to get money from politicians. You can’t have 20 million followers and be useless. Celebrities need to speak with one voice. If we want a better Nigeria, we need to reform our constitution, bring justice for people who steal from public funds.”
