Barcelona Crush Newcastle 7-2 to Reach UCL Quarter-Finals

FC Barcelona delivered a commanding performance at the Camp Nou, defeating Newcastle United FC 7-2 to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with an 8-3 aggregate victory.

The Spanish giants were inspired by standout displays from Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, who both scored twice, while Fermín López, Lamine Yamal, and others contributed to a relentless attacking showcase that overwhelmed the Premier League side.

The encounter began as a highly competitive contest, with Newcastle, managed by Eddie Howe, showing early resilience. The visitors twice drew level in the first half through Anthony Elanga, responding to Barcelona’s opening goals and briefly keeping the tie finely balanced.

Barcelona struck first after capitalizing on defensive errors, as Raphinha finished a slick move involving López. Newcastle responded quickly, with Elanga converting from close range after a cross from Lewis Hall.

Momentum swung back and forth in an entertaining first half. Harvey Barnes played a key role in Newcastle’s second equaliser, setting up Elanga for another composed finish at the back post. However, Barcelona regained the lead just before halftime after VAR awarded a penalty for a foul by Kieran Trippier on Raphinha, which Lamine Yamal converted with composure.

The second half belonged entirely to Barcelona. López extended their lead early after being released by Raphinha, before Lewandowski took control of the contest. The experienced striker scored twice—first heading in from a Raphinha corner and then finishing clinically from open play—to effectively end Newcastle’s hopes of a comeback.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Raphinha adding his second goal of the night after intercepting a poor pass from Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey and finishing confidently to complete the rout.

The result underscores Barcelona’s strength in attack, midfield creativity, and Champions League experience, as they progress confidently into the quarter-finals. For Newcastle, the defeat highlights defensive frailties at the elite European level, despite flashes of attacking promise during the first half.

Barcelona will now await the outcome of the tie between Atlético Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur as they continue their quest for European glory.
