Barcelona target Osimhen as Lewandowski successor

Spanish giants FC Barcelona are reportedly lining up a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they prepare for life after Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is set to expire next June.

According to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club has placed Osimhen high on its shortlist of potential replacements. Speaking to Turkish outlet Radyospor, Sans said, “Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Osimhen and he’s definitely a player they want,” adding that the club intends to open talks with Galatasaray in 2026.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the development, stating that Barcelona are “for sure” in the market for a new No. 9. Osimhen is among several elite forwards being closely monitored, with the club reportedly making regular inquiries to stay updated on striker availability.

The 26-year-old joined Galatasaray from Napoli in a €75 million deal and has since flourished in Turkey, scoring 43 goals in 50 appearances. A clause in his contract prevents a return to Italian football for two years, potentially smoothing the path for Barcelona’s pursuit.

Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray followed a failed transfer to Chelsea, where personal terms could not be agreed. Napoli subsequently sanctioned his exit, allowing the Turkish champions to swoop in. Now, Barcelona could complete the move the Premier League side could not.

While Dusan Vlahovic remains a viable option—especially with the possibility of a free transfer next summer—Osimhen’s consistency and proven record in Serie A make him the standout candidate for Hansi Flick’s squad.

Barcelona’s ideal target is Julian Alvarez of Manchester City, but his reported €200 million valuation places him well beyond the club’s current financial reach.

With Osimhen’s reputation continuing to soar, a potential move to Camp Nou could mark a defining chapter in his career and cement his place among Europe’s elite forwards.
