Gunmen Kill Islamic Cleric, Abduct Wife, Daughter in Toro Attack
Residents of Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, in a deadly attack carried out in the early hours of Saturday.
Community sources said armed men stormed the cleric’s home in Zalau, where Bakoshi served as the Discipline Officer of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS). The attackers reportedly shot him dead before abducting his wife—who recently delivered a baby—and their young daughter.

The incident has heightened fear and tension in the area, adding to growing concerns over the rising wave of insecurity in Bauchi State and neighbouring communities. Residents describe the attack as one of the most disturbing in recent months, calling for urgent government intervention.
As of press time, the Bauchi State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the killing and abductions.
Authorities and local vigilante groups are said to be combing surrounding forests in search of the abducted victims, even as the community prays for their safe return.
