Bello El-Rufai Accuses ICPC Of Denying Father Medical Care, Food
Hon. Mohammed Bello, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating his father’s constitutional rights by allegedly denying him access to medical care and food while in detention.
Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the allegations in a statement posted on his social media platforms on Friday.
According to the lawmaker, officials of the ICPC blocked El-Rufai’s personal doctor from seeing him despite an existing court order granting the former governor unrestricted access to medical care while in custody.
“Today, 15 May 2026, we witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his basic rights,” Bello stated.
He explained that El-Rufai’s doctor visited the anti-graft agency around 3:00 p.m. to discuss the outcome of recent medical tests conducted on the former governor but was denied access by officials who allegedly insisted on obtaining approval from the ICPC chairman.
“Officials at the agency blocked the doctor from seeing him, claiming that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. This directly flouts a clear court order granting Mallam Nasir El-Rufai unrestricted access to his doctors,” Bello alleged.
The federal lawmaker further claimed that El-Rufai’s wife, Hajiya Aichatou El-Rufai, was also prevented from delivering food to her husband later in the evening.

According to him, she arrived at the facility around 7:00 p.m. with his evening meal but was allegedly turned away by ICPC officials.
“ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30 p.m. This arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care,” he added.
Bello described the actions of the anti-corruption agency as “an outright assault on the rule of law” and accused the commission of violating the former governor’s constitutional and human rights.
“We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol. The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce,” the statement read.
The allegations come amid the ongoing prosecution of the former Kaduna governor by the ICPC over alleged corruption and money laundering charges.
The anti-graft agency had earlier confirmed that El-Rufai and a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, were facing a 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna bordering on alleged unlawful conversion, money laundering, and possession of proceeds of corruption.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Earlier in the proceedings, Justice Rilwan Aikawa reportedly granted El-Rufai access to designated medical facilities while in custody after concerns were raised over his health condition.
The court reportedly directed that the former governor be allowed access to medical treatment under the supervision of ICPC officials.
As of Friday evening, the ICPC had yet to officially respond to the latest allegations raised by Bello El-Rufai.
The development has continued to generate political reactions, with supporters of the former governor accusing the agency of intimidation, while critics insist that anti-corruption investigations must proceed within the bounds of the law.
