Ijebu‑Ode, Ogun State — A total of 95 princes and princesses from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have declared their interest in the stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, the paramount traditional throne in Ijebu land, officials confirmed on Monday.

The announcement was made by Otunba Lateef Owoyemi (Otunba Jadiara), the Olori Ebi of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, at the nomination and screening meeting held at Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA, Ijebu‑Ode. The event also saw the attendance of other ruling house leaders, including Deputy Olori Ebi Otunba Ajidagba and Chairman Chief Fassy Yusuf.

Owoyemi, a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), explained that the names of aspirants who successfully pass the initial screening would be forwarded to the Afobajes, the traditional kingmakers. The Afobajes are expected to select one candidate to be submitted to the Ogun State Government for official approval as the next Awujale.

He further advised that anyone disagreeing with the process should channel their complaints through appropriate government channels, reinforcing the commitment to transparency and adherence to tradition.

The nomination exercise marks a significant step in the succession process following the passing of the former Awujale, and it has drawn attention from several notable figures, including Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde (K1 De Ultimate), whose eligibility has been subject to debate.

The selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland remains a matter of both cultural significance and public interest, with the ruling house and Ogun State Government emphasizing fairness, due process, and respect for Ijebuland’s traditional customs.
