BREAKING: ADC Suspends Chairman Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended a state chairman over alleged anti-party activities, a move that has further exposed growing internal divisions within the opposition party.
The suspension was announced on Monday after an emergency meeting of the party’s State Working Committee, which accused the chairman of actions considered detrimental to party unity, discipline and adherence to the ADC constitution. Party officials said the decision was taken to protect the party’s structure and prevent further breakdown of internal order.
According to the ADC, the affected chairman allegedly engaged in activities capable of undermining the party’s collective interest, including fraternising with rival political groups and disregarding directives from constituted party authorities. The party stressed that the suspension remains in force pending the outcome of investigations by its disciplinary committee.

The latest development is not an isolated incident, as the ADC has in recent months suspended several officials across different states over similar allegations. In Sokoto State, top party executives including the state secretary and publicity secretary were earlier suspended for alleged attempts to run parallel party structures. At the national level, the ADC National Working Committee (NWC) has also sanctioned senior members accused of undermining party leadership.
Political analysts say the recurring suspensions point to deep-seated leadership and organisational challenges within the ADC as it struggles to consolidate its position as a viable third force in Nigeria’s political space. While party leaders insist that discipline is necessary to maintain credibility, critics argue that persistent internal conflicts could weaken the ADC ahead of future elections.
Despite the crisis, the party has reiterated its commitment to internal democracy and warned that it will not hesitate to take action against any member found guilty of anti-party conduct, regardless of status.
