Despite playing in front of a largely pro-Algerian crowd of 32,452, Nigeria were unshaken and controlled proceedings for long spells. Algeria, champions in 2019, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s intensity and failed to register a single shot in the first half.

Nigeria came close on several occasions before the break, with Calvin Bassey denied on the line and Akor Adams missing a clear chance. However, coach Eric Chelle’s half-time adjustments paid off almost immediately after the restart.

Osimhen’s opener marked his fourth goal in four AFCON matches, underlining his return to top form after a slow start to the tournament. Adams’ composed finish made it 14 goals for Nigeria at the competition, confirming the Super Eagles as the tournament’s top scorers.

Algeria, led by Riyad Mahrez, Ibrahim Maza and Mohamed Amoura, never truly recovered, and Nigeria comfortably saw out the game despite late tensions at full-time.

The Super Eagles now turn their attention to Rabat, where they will face Morocco in what promises to be a fiery semi-final encounter.
