Breaking: After Tinubu broadcast, labour to review decision on planned strike
The organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), says it is reconsidering its decision to embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
The strike is scheduled to begin with a mass protest across the country.
General Secretary of the NLC, Emma Ugbaja, said on Tuesday that the union would meet to review their decision on the industrial action.
He spoke after the rescheduled meeting of the presidential steering committee on palliatives held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Although the NLC President, Joe Ajero, was absent at the meeting held in Aso Rock, other major labour leaders attended.
Ugbaja said President Bola Tinubu’s palliative measures announced in his national broadcast on Monday night were welcomed.
He however said they were not comprehensive enough.
Ugbaja said the labour unions would consult with its members to reach a consensus on the next course of action before the end today (Tuesday).
