The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is dead.
The monarch known for his ebullient lifestyle, was said to have died late evening of Friday at the Afe Babalola University where he had been taken for treatment. He was aged 83.
It was learnt that the monarch was in the United Kingdom two weeks ago for a medical treatment.
A source close to the palace in the early hours of Saturday said his corpse was brought to the palace in the covers of the night.
Adeyemi ruled for 52 years before his demise, making him the longest-reigning Alaafin.
Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi was on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town.
