Breaking: APC leads in Edo gov poll, wins 10 LGs, PDP takes 6, two more to go

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced results from 16 of the 18 local government areas of the governorship election for Edo State conducted on Saturday.

In the declared results at the state collation centre in Benin, the All Progressives Congress is ahead winning in 10 of the 16 LGAs, leaving the remaining six local governments for the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Labour Party is yet to win any of the local government but it has maintained a distant third.

Edo State has 18 local government areas.

The results announcement at the state collation centre is currently on break.

The Returning Officer of the Edo governorship election, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, who is vice-chancellor at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, announced the break.

This, he said, was to await the two remaining local governments’ results.

The three main contenders in the election are Monday Okpebholo of the APC, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, and Olumide Akpata of the LP.

The collation of results is expected to resume at 5pm today.
