Leader of Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu
BREAKING: Court Fixes 3:50pm for Sentencing as Nnamdi Kanu
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled 3:50pm today for the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), shortly after convicting him on multiple terrorism-related charges.
Justice James Omotosho announced the decision on Thursday, moments after delivering a judgment that found Kanu guilty on all counts, including terrorism, incitement, killings, and other offences tied to violent separatist activities.
According to reports, the court held that the prosecution had successfully proved its case against the IPOB leader.

Before adjourning, Justice Omotosho called for allocutus, inviting both parties to make their final submissions ahead of sentencing. Lead prosecutor Adegboyega Awomolo urged the court to impose the maximum penalty, arguing that Kanu’s actions had “far-reaching consequences on national security.”
“My Lord, based on the conviction for terrorism, we ask this honourable court to apply the maximum sentence of death,” Awomolo said.
Speaking on behalf of Kanu, federal lawmaker Hon. Obi Aguocha appealed for mercy, warning that an extremely harsh sentence could heighten regional tensions.
“We plead with Your Lordship to temper justice with compassion. Nnamdi Kanu has followers who look up to him, and a severe sentence may inflame tensions further,” Aguocha submitted.
Tension remained high inside and outside the courtroom as supporters, observers, and security operatives awaited the sentencing phase.
Kanu is expected to reappear before the court at 3:50pm, when Justice Omotosho will deliver the long-anticipated punishment following his conviction.
