Breaking: Despite explosion, Rivers lawmakers meet, remove majority leader, sign gov impeachment notice
Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday ignored the explosion recorded in the House as they held a plenary where they impeached the majority leader.
Part of the decisions by those in attendance was the reported signing of an impeachment notice on the state governor Siminalaye Fubara.
The session was presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, and attended by a good number of members.
It was also learnt that the Leader of the House, Edison Ehie and those loyal to the governor were suspended.
It was gathered that the explosion that occurred in the Assembly on Sunday night was a ploy to stop the lawmakers from gaining entry to the Assembly on Monday.
As early as 7am, some lawmakers reportedly made their way into the House and immediately commenced plenary where they all signed the impeachment notice on the governor.
The action occurred despite the Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly already barricaded by armed policemen.
