Breaking: First Nigeria’s woman governor emerges as INEC declares Binani winner in Adamawa
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, as winner of the Adamawa governorship election.
Prof Hudu Yunus Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa, declared Binani as winner midway into the collation on Sunday.
Before the collation of exercise was suspended on Saturday night, results from 10 LGAs had been announced — and Binani was trailing Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent governor and PDP candidate.
Some PDP supporters in the hall had protested why the announcement was made by the REC instead of the returning officer.
Governorship election results are traditionally announced by the state returning officer.
The returning officer for the Adamawa governorship election, Mele Lamido, was not present when Ari announced Binani as the winner of the election.
