Ngige and Wabba
The organised labour has suspended the industrial action planned to commence today (Monday).
The suspension order was announced at 2:50am this morning after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government at a meeting which started at 8.30pm on Sunday.
Both labour and the FG confirmed the suspension of the strike.
The Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, on his Twitter handle, wrote, ”FG & LABOUR reached agreement at 2:53am. Deregulation to stay as Govt rolls out palliatives for labour (details in 2 weeks); Electricity tariffs suspended by Govt for 2 weeks with a joint Committee headed by @fkeyamo to examine the justification for the new policy. Strike suspended.”
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, read a five-page communique signed by the representatives of the government and labour in which they specifically agreed to suspend the increase in electricity tariff for two weeks.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba; and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Quadri Olaleye, and other labour leaders signed the communiqué while Ngige; Minister of State Petroleum, Timipre Silva; Keyamo (SAN); Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; and the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, signed on behalf of the government.
