The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, rejected a bill seeking to include value-added tax (VAT) on the exclusive list.
A total of 200 lawmakers voted against the amendment, while 91 voted in favour of the amendment at the plenary.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) had asked the national assembly to include VAT collection on the exclusive legislative list.
The FIRS’ move came in the wake of a legal tussle between Rivers State government and agency over collecting VAT and personal income tax (PIT) in the state.
