Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Prof. Godswill Obioma, has has been confirmed dead
His wife, Elizabeth said he killed on Monday night by some gunmen who stormed his Minna residence in the Niger State capital.
“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” the deceased’s widow, said.
But Director, Human Resources at NECO, Abdul Mustapha, said Obioma died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.
Mustapha said a report from Obioma’s second son, Prince Godswill Obioma, informing him of the death of his father stated, “Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.
“We request that you kindly notify the board, management and the entire staff of the council of this development.
“We shall keep you duly informed. Prince Godswill Obioma the 2nd, for the family.”
The 67-year-old indigene of Abia State was appointed NECO registrar in May 2020.
His killing occurred barely 24 hours after the murder of Ahmed Gulak, an ex-political aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Niger State Police Command has yet to respond to the killing of the NECO registrar.
